Field's Meadow
Cloud-Vernon House
140 Concord Road / location estimated
“Early in the 1890’s, Father and Uncle Joss became specialists in the technique of dehorning cattle … Farmers with dairy herds in the neighborhood regularly engaged their services in this specialty and at times they had more calls than they could accept without neglecting necessary work on their farms” (Hannum, p. 69).
The J.H. Field family owned this farm from 1870 until the early 20th century. They lived in the Cloud-Vernon farmhouse built c. 1751. Vinnie S. Field owned 93 acres, according to the 1911 map of Concord Township. Green’s Creek ran through several areas of the Field farm. Most of this land was developed into two large neighborhoods on either side of Concord Road. The neighborhoods have street names of the former farm owners: Cassin, Valentine, and Field. The Cloud-Vernon House was preserved and is a testament to the farmland today. The location of the 1924 photograph can only be estimated as somewhere near Concord Road.
